Totally Techniques - Glitter Splatter

So pleased to be joining you this month on the Totally Techniques design Team Hop. . . We are doing Glitter Splatter which is a fabulous technique if you adore glitter as much as I do. I have to admit that when I first started as a demo I loved Dazzling Diamonds so much that I added it to every card. . . no mean feat I assure you.

You may have just popped by from my friend Zoe's blog, her projects are always so inspiring that I itch to craft after seeing them.

These are my projects this month:

The technique is an easy one and lends itself to any project.  Our Design Team member, Kelly Acheson's YouTube is brilliant at explaining it clearly!

I have done three projects with different coloured glitter - silver, Dazzling Diamonds and gold.

Let's just check out the projects more closely.

The first project - we will call it the little Mermaid Card is made using the following products:

Pool Party card
Thick Whisper White card
Silver Foil Card
Pool Party Classic Ink Pad
Powder Pink Classic Ink Pad (retiring)
Smokey Slate Classic Ink Pad
Magical Day Stamp Set (retiring)
Playful Backgrounds
Tombow Glue
Silver Glitter
Aqua painter
Silver Metallic Thread
Wink of Stella Pen
Dimensionals
Stitched Edge Framelits
Layering Square Framelits

I have my friend Tanja Kolar to thank for the idea and I have actually made the card for my sister Zarnie who had a baby girl on Tuesday.
I stamped the mermaid from Magical Day in Smokey Slate and coloured her using the Pool Party and Powder Pink ink pads and aqua painter. I also stamped the bubbles from PlayfulBackground in Pool Party and coloured some of them randomly with Powder Pink ink. I fussy cut the mermaid out.
I cut a square of Whisper White card with the Stitched Edge Framelits and stamped the corner with the bubbles from Playful Background and coloured some of them with Powder Pink. It's mounted on a square of Silver Foil Card cut using the Layering Square Framelits. The sentiment was stamped in Smokey Slate and cut free hand, adhered with tombow glue. You can see the Silver Metallic Thread tousing behind the mermaid to pop her from the rest of the image.
I splattered glue and added the Silver Glitter then patiently waited for it all to dry before dusting it off.

The Moonlight Card used the following materials and tools:

Smokey Slate Card
Basic Black Card
Night of Navy Card
Whisper White Card
Waterfront Stamp Set
Amazing Congratulations Stamp Set
Classic Label Punch
Burlap Ribbon
Aqua painter
Smokey Slate Classic Ink
Sahara Sand Classic Ink
Night of Navy Classic Ink
Lemon Lime Twist Classic Ink
Tuxedo Black Memento Ink
Clear Embossing Powder
Heating Tool
13/8" Circle Punch
Post it notes
Tombow Glue
Dazzling Diamonds
Base card is Smokey Slate, munted with a rectangle of Basic Black, then a rectangle of Night of Navy and finally Whisper White card. I stamped the sand using the image from Waterfront in Sahara Sand and sprinkled with Clear Embossing Powder, heated it so that the sand was embossed.
Stamped the three little shacks in Smokey Slate and heated with Clear Embossing Powder the same as the sand. Punched out a circle from a post it note and then masked in the moon. I painted the sky with Night of Navy Ink and an aqua painter and the beach with Sahara Sand Ink. I allowed it to dry, removed the moon mask and painted the moon in Lemon Lime Twist ink and an aqua painter.
Finally I splattered the sky with tombow glue as per the video and sprinkled on the Dazzling Diamonds. The sentiment is from Amazing Congratulations stamped in Memento Black Ink on Whisper White and punched out with the Label Punch (after I punched the sentiment I double punched to make the pennant shape using the same punch). I then mounted the sentiment on a piece of Night of Navy card.

Final project is the Rose Card. I used the following materials and tools:

Pink Pirouette Card
Whisper White Card
Petal Passion DSP
Gold Glimmer Paper
Petal Palette
Tuxedo Black Memento Ink
Stampin' Blends
  Dark Cherry Cobbler
  Light Cherry Cobbler
  Dark Pink Pirouette
  Light Pink Pirouette
  Dark Daffodil Delight
  Light Daffodil Delight
  Dark Old Olive
  Light Old Olive
  Light Smokey Slate
Iridescent Sequins
Tombow
Dimensionals
The base card is Pink Pirouette mounted with a rectangle of Whisper White card. I stamped the rose from the Petal Palette set on Memento Ink on a scrap of Whisper White card and coloured it using the blends then fussy cut it out. The other floral images from the Petal Palette set are stamped on the base card. I then adhered a strip of the Petal Passion DSP to the left hand side of the stamp base (it covered a few of the stamped images where they crossed over.
I mounted the rose stamped image with dimensionals. You will see that there is subtle shadowing around all the stamped and coloured images; I accomplished this by using the Smokey Slate Blend pen. To add a little bling to the project and to marry in the glitter splatter I then adhered a few sequins randomly to the card.
Final step was the glitter splatter. Once it had dried I added the sentiment which is from the same set. I stamped the words in Memento Ink and cut the shape free hand and mounted it on a piece of Gold Glimmer Card to make it pop.

Hope that you like the projects and feel inspired to try the technique which is nice and easy.

Don't leave us just yet Annette has a beautiful project for you to check out.

See you all next month. . .

Stay sparkly!

Thinking Outside the Box - Box and Lid with Window

Welcome back to another Thinking Outside the Box Design Team Blog Hop! It's great to have you with us!  This month we are doing boxes that have lids with windows. . .
This is my project:
The box is very simplistic and easy to create - the "wow" factor with my lid with a window is that I made it into a shaker lid.
Here are the steps:

1.  The template is quite straight forward and the box can be made using one and half pieces of A4 card stock.
The dimensions of the box are 6cm x 6cm (23/8" x 23/8") and the lid is 6.2cm (21/2") square with a 2cm (3/4") lip with the folds and seams the lid ends up being a snug fit.

2. This is what the base looks like once its been measured, scored and cut out. I used thick Whisper White card stock:

3. I stamped the flower from the Lots of Happy Card Kit in Calypso Coral ink. I stamped off each stamp before stamping the images. This is what the base looks like once it's stamped and before its constructed. Make sure you burnish all of the score lines to make assembly easy.
4. The lid looks like this once it has been measured up, scored and cut out. I do all cutting and scoring with the Paper Trimmer. I only trim the edges of the flaps with my scissors.
5. I wanted to keep the lid relatively plain because of the shaker feature. I selected the best fitting scalloped edged square framelit from the Layering Square framelits. It fits perfectly with a 2mm (1/8") border.
The void is perfect. Make sure you burnish all score lines before running the card and framelit through the Big Shot.
6. You can just see that I have cut a square of Window Sheet to the lid measurement of 6.2cm (21/2") square. I also cut another square of Whisper White card stock to the same size. I lined the perimeter of the card stock with foam adhesive strips.
I glued the Window Sheet on the inside of the lid prior to construction using Tombow Glue. I constructed the shaker part before assembling the lid.
This is what the inside of the lid looks like once the shaker feature has been created.
And this is the reverse side - the outside and top of the shaker before the assembly and before added the stamped features.
7. I added a piece of ribbon from the card kit to tie in the green in the coloured image on the top of the lid and the beads in the shaker feature.
The sentiment is from the stamp set that comes with the Lots of Happy Card Kit. I used the smallest plain square from the Layering Squares Framelits to cut a small square of Whisper White card. I stamped the sentiment after cutting to ensure that I had the right placement.
I daubered the edges with Calypso Coral ink, stamped the floral stamp from the stamp set from the kit in Smoky Slate (stamped off a little) and then placed the square on the right angle on the punched Calypso Coral card, punched with the Pretty Label punch. These are adhered directly onto the box as you will see that the lip of the punch/sentiment fit just under the lid. The pearls are to tie in with the pearls on the stamped and coloured images on the lid and the pearls in the shaker feature.
I thought that a different angle would give you a perspective on how pretty this little box is!
8. I stamped the floral image from the same stamp set that comes in the Lots of Happy Card Kit in Black Tuxedo Memento Ink on Whisper White card stock and coloured the images using the following Stampin' Blends:

Light Calypso Coral
Dark Pink Pirouette
Light Pumpkin Pie
Light Old Olive
Light Pool Party
I fussy cut the images once they were coloured and adhered them to the Window Sheet with glue dots. You will see that I added some small pearl jewels to the stamped and coloured images.
I love how the Iridescent Sequin Assortment embellishments glisten and sparkle and add a real wow feature to the lid.
You can see how the colours all work in perfectly together. It was a fun project to make and so simple. The hardest part is keeping all the sequins in the lid until you have the shaker feature assembled lol!

I hope you like the project and are inspired to check out the rest of the blog. There are so many different takes on this project and I am sure that something will catch you eye!
Next up is the incredibly talented Tanja Kolar from Germany my good friend and stamping sister, she will blow you away with her amazing project.

Have fun and see you next time.

Big Hugs
